During its  meeting on Thursday February 20th the Stevenson-Carson School Board selected three finalists to interview for the position of superintendent – Ingrid Colvard, from the Woodland School District, Benton Dorman, from Mt Pleasant and ESD 112, and Craig McKee, from the White Salmon School District. 

Nine  candidates submitted applications for the position and the Board narrowed the field to three during an executive session that lasted more than three hours.   “We had strong candidates vying to be our next superintendent,” Board Chair Jeff Wickersham said. “After extensive discussion, we narrowed the field to three individuals. We’re confident that one of these three will be a great leader for the Stevenson-Carson School District.”

  • Ingrid Colvard is the principal of Columbia Elementary School in the Woodland School District.Colvard began her career in the Hockinson School District as an Intervention Specialist, later moving to Hockinson High School as a social worker/counselor.Following a stint as assistant prinpal in Hockinson heights Elementary School she became principal at Columbia Elementary/Woodland primary School in 2016.
  • Benton Dorman currently serves as Interim Superintendent/Principal of Mt. Pleasant School and special education director for Stevenson-Carson.Prior to this position he served as the Assistant Director of Special Education for ESD 112 in Vancouver, Washington. He previously served assuperintendent/principal of Mill A School in Cook, Washington and as a special education administrator.He began his career as a psychologist and mental health services program specialist.
  • Craig McKee is the principal of Columbia High School and White Salmon Academy in the White Salmon School District.He previously served asthe Assistant Principal at Stevenson High School in the Stevenson-Carson School District.Before that McKee was the Athletic Director of Stevenson High School.Earlier in his career he served as a physical education teacher, and math teacher.He has had extensive coaching experience, serving as head coach for football, girls basketball, and track.

All finalists will be in the district on Thursday, March 5th.  All stakeholders are invited to attend the finalist interviews which will begin at 5:00 pm on March 5.  The interviews will be held at Stevenson High School in the library.  Board members request that anyone wishing to provide feedback to the School Board plan to stay for all three interviews, which will conclude by 8:15 that evening.  This will provide fair and consistent information for board members to consider.

Board Chair Jeff Wickersham said the School Board is hoping for broad participation during the interview process because feedback from staff and the community will play an important role in Board’s final decision.

The new superintendent will succeed Karen Douglass, who is stepping down after five years as Stevenson-Carson’s superintendent.   The Board of Directors is expected to announce its next superintendent at its regular board meeting on Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m.  The new superintendent will officially report to work July 1, 2020.
