Congress acted to fund the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program as it approved an Omnibus Appropriations bill (H.R. 1625). The Omnibus bill completes final FY 2018 funding replacing an expiring Continuing Resolution. The SRS extension with funding for FY 2017 and FY 2018 will provide much needed financial support for the 9 million students in 4,400 school districts in 775 forest counties in 41 states served by the Secure Rural Schools program. This financial support will go to all schools in Skamania County. The Omnibus bill states the FY 2017 SRS payments will go out within 45 days of enactment of the bill. The Stevenson-Carson School District believes this payment will be about $1.3 million.
